How to Make a $50 Meal at Home


If you buy the right cut of meat and follow the instructions below you'll think you're eating at Ruth's Chris Steak House...except you'll have to clean up and do the dishes afterwards.  Enjoy!




6 LB whole beef tenderloin (makes 7 or 8- 8 oz filets)


Trimmed and cut into 2 inch filets
2 tbsp olive or vegetable oil




Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Season trimmed and cut filets with salt and pepper. Heat oven proof pan over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Sear filets in oil on one side for 4-5 minutes. Turn them over , place in oven and roast for desired doneness.

rare: 5 min.

medium-rare: 7 min.

medium: 9 min.

Allow filets to rest for 5 min. before serving. This helps re-distribute the juices. Serve with béarnaise Sauce or butter.
